Our School Values in PE:

We show love by supporting and encouraging one another.

We show courage by being brave and trying new things.

We show unity by working and playing in teams.

We show inspiration by encouraging others to have a go and demonstrating our skills.

Our curriculum:

PE at Bishop Aldhelm’s inspires our children and provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way that supports their health and well-being. Our PE curriculum aims to help every children learn about themselves, their bodies and ways to become physically active leading to life-long participation. We ensure that all pupils develop the fundamental skills and competence to excel in a wide range of physical activities by providing a broad and balanced curriculum with opportunities for all to be enjoyed.

We provide various opportunities to compete in competitive sport and a range of other activities that build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Our values encourage all children to show love by supporting and encouraging one another; show courage by being brave and trying new things; show unity by working and playing in teams; show inspiration by encouraging others to have a go and demonstrating our skills.

Importance to Bishop Aldhelm’s children:

PE is very important at Bishop Aldhelm’s. As well as lessons, children have the opportunity to join different extra curricula clubs. A wide variety of clubs are offered for free by staff at school whilst others are paid for by external providers. Children have the chance to represent the school at a friendly level up to county. The school has a number of teams including football, netball, sailing, cross country and athletics.

Local Links:

Children at Bishop Aldhelm’s have opportunities to play sport alongside and against other local schools both in friendly and in competitive events. We make sure of local facilities such as the leisure centre for swimming, Rockley Water Sports for sailing and RNLI for beach/water safety. The local area is well known for sailing, with many people doing this recreationally and as athletes. There is also a strong running community in the local area, including across our parents.

We want children to leave Bishop Aldhelm’s being able to:

  • know how to participate in a range of team and individual sports
  • explain how to keep fit and healthy with exercises
  • have had experiences with playing against other teams
